History

Although     arguably     with     the     oldest     lineage     of     any     Australian Regular     Army     Unit,     the     2nd/14th     Light     Horse     Regiment (Queensland   Mounted   Infantry)   Association   [2/14   LHR   (QMI)   Assn Inc.]    is    a    new    Association    of    members,    former    members    and friends    of    our    Regiment,    which    is    now    based    at    Enoggera Barracks.   The   Association   was   formally   incorporated   on   6th   May 2013 under the Queensland Associations Incorporation Act 1981. The   2/14   LHR   (QMI)   was   formed   in   1952,   though   it   sentimentally traces   its   lineage   back   to   2nd   Moreton   Light   Horse   (QMI)   and   the 14th    West    Moreton    Light    Horse    (QMI).    In    2005,    the    Regiment celebrated its 150th anniversary. Over   the   years   there   have   been   many   organisational   changes based   on   both   Regular   and/or   Reserve   elements.   In   March   2005, the    Regiment    became    a    completely    Regular    unit    to    meet    the Army’s   increased   operational   tempo.   Since   that   date,   elements   of the     Regiment     have     seen     many     operational     deployments, including   a   number   of   Security   Detachment   (SECDET)   rotations   in Iraq;   and   as   part   of   the   Al   Muthanna   Task   Group   which   became the first rotation of the Overwatch Battle Group (West). More    recently,    the    Regiment    has    contributed    forces    to    the Australian    Task    Force    in    Afghanistan    as    part    of    Operation SLIPPER;      and      individuals      have      supplemented      other      unit deployments. Although   a   young   organisation,   the   Association   is   a   keen   and active   supporter   of   the   Regiment   and   supports   the   Commanding Officer and its members in any way it can. Both    current    and    past    serving    members    of    the    Regiment    are invited   to   join   the   Association.   Various   Classes   of   Membership are   available,   please   refer   to   our   Membership   Application   Form   for more information. The motto of 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) is: Forward’.

The     2/14     LHR     (QMI)     was     formed     in     1952,     though sentimentally    traces    its    lineage    to    1860.        Consequently, there   was   a   claim   that   it   was   the   oldest   Australian   Regular Army   unit   through   the   antecedent   units   2 nd    Moreton   Light Horse   (QMI)   and   the   14 th    West   Moreton   Light   Horse   (QMI) and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010. In   March   2005   the   regiment   became   a   completely   regular unit    to    meet    the    Army's    increased    operational    tempo.      Since    this    date    elements    of    the    regiment    have    made    a number of operational deployments. 2/14   Light   Horse   Regiment   (Queensland   Mounted   Infantry) has     contributed     a     number     of     Security     Detachment (SECDET)    rotations    to    Iraq.        In    2006,    A    Squadron    was deployed   to   Iraq   to   serve   as   part   of   the   third   rotation   of the    Al    Muthanna    Task    Group    which    became    the    first rotation of Overwatch Battle Group (West). More    recently    the    unit    has    contributed    forces    to    the Australian   Task   Force   in   Afghanistan   as   part   of   Operation Slipper.   Individuals   from   2/14   LHR   (QMI)   are   also   used   to round    out    2nd    Cavalry    Regiment    deployments    and    vice versa. Both   current   and   past   serving   members   of   the   Regiment are     encouraged     and     are     most     welcome     to     join     the Association.   Various   Classes   of   Membership   are   available, please   refer   to   our   Membership   Application   Form    for   more information.
